30 years later, read about Indulal Yagnik in English!

The English translation of Gujarati hero Indulal Yagnik's autobiograhy was launched in the city on Friday. Sewa founder, Ela Bhatt was the chief at the event, accompanied by vice-chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapeeth, Sudarshan Iyengar.

Commenting on the work, Bhatt thanked the three translators for "clearing the confusion of the Leftist mystery and showing Indulal's role in shaping/unshaping of Gujarat when it was formed."

Indulal's autobiography has been translated late Devavrat N Pathak, Professor Howard Spodek and Professor John Wood. The work, all of 2250 pages, covering three volumes was three decades in the making.

Indulal Yagnik, founder of Mahagujarat Janata Parishad and leader of All India Kisan Sabha was also instrumental in the National Freedom movement.

Prof Spodek said that the reason Indulal was so important for the country was not only for his activities but also his fundamental beliefs.

Prof John Wood, who met the leader back in 1969, recalls how the man had taken out cut out clippings about Japan, China and Europe during their long interview then. "His mind was in the struggles taking place all over the world," Wood said.

Indulal Yagnik had said about his own book, "I am like a thread, covered with fragrant flowers." He attributed the people of Gujarat as the main characters of his book.
