More and more youth in the city it seems are turning to the lucrative business of chain-snatching for some easy money. In yet another incident, the Naranpura police arrested three youths including an underage information technology student in connection with some chain snatching and bike thieving incidents. The youth admitted their involvement in some 18 cases of chain snatching and vehicle thefts in the city.  Apart from the minor, the other two were identified as Saddam Hussain, 19, a resident of Paldi and Wahid Ahmed, 19, a resident of Juhapura.

All the three were nabbed from near Sardar Patel crossroads. The police intercepted them after the three were caught travelling on a bike.

"The police team patrolling the area asked the trio about the Pulsar bike they were driving. Later they failed to produce a driving licence and other related papers," said police inspector, Naranpura police station, RT Gohil.

He said that during interrogation the boys told the cops about the bike thefts and chain snatching incidents. The youth told the police that they have been snatching chains in various areas of the city like Maninagar, Satellite and Ellisbridge.

A police source said that, Hussain and Ahmed are actively involved in chain snatching, while the minor is mainly into stealing bikes. The stolen bikes were then used for chain snatching.

"We found them suspicious and later they broke down during interrogation," said Gohil. Joint commissioner of police, sector 1, Satish Sharma told DNA that police patrolling helps in keeping an eye on offenders. The police are in the process of recovering the stolen chains and bikes from the trio.
