Three members of a family died after the car they were travelling in met with an accident near Kanbha on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway on Sunday morning. The family was on their way to Nareshwar when the incident occurred.
Sources said that the Maruti 800 that the group was travelling in rammed into an ST bus parked on the expressway, eight kilometres away from the Ahmedabad toll booth. A complaint of accidental death has been registered at the Kanbha police station.
The victims — Bharat Shah (55), Shreya Shah (50) and Donna Shah (23) —, all residents of Ahmedabad, sustained severe injuries on the spot. All three were rushed to the Civil Hospital for treatment. While Bharat and Shreya were declared brought dead, Donna succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Sources said that Bharat Shah works in the accounts department of Bank of Baroda's Shahibaug branch, while Donna, an MBA, is employed by travel website Yatra.com.
Shah's son, Nilay, is a software engineer based in Boston in the USA. Donna got married to Sameer Upadhyaya a few months back. Sources close to the development said that Upadhyaya returned after a tour to China only a day back.
Bipin Shah, elder brother of the deceased Bharat Shah, told DNA,
"The news of the accident first reached my brother Himanshu Shah, after which I was informed. We were told by the Kanbha police that the car had rammed into the bus. The police found our numbers on going through a telephone diary found in Bharat's pocket."
Relatives of the family said Nilay Shah will reach Ahmedabad on Tuesday morning.
