26 tribals affected by anthrax in Orissa

At least 26 tribal people in four villages in Orissa's Sundargarh district have been affected by anthrax, doctors said today.

In-charge of Hatibari community Health Centre (CHC) SN Jotishi said a medical team from the district headquarter hospital, Sundargarh with sufficient medicines have been camping in affected villages and treating the patients.

The villagers of Dukatoli, Mangratoli, Kusumtoli and Anthugada under Hatibari Panchayat in Nuagam block of the district from where the anthrax disease was detected were given the door to door medical treatment, he said.

The family members of anthrax patients were also given medicines as a preventive measure, Jotishi said.

Chief district medical officer (CDMO) of Sundargarh, Bikrant Kindo visited the affected villages yesterday and monitored the situation.
