Soon, Amdavadis will be able to chill out at a swanky new complex offering sports and leisure facilities; the complex will also incorporate a convention centre. In addition, the city will be the site of a new entertainment and floriculture zone. These projects are being developed in the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) area. They are a part of some 62 projects that were kick-started following the signing of 41 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit (VGGIS)-2009.
Data available with the Auda officials suggests that the 41 MoUs were signed for around 75 projects to be developed in the Auda area. A year later, work on the 62 projects, with an investment of Rs3320 crore, has already begun.
The variety of projects coming up in the Auda area will provide citizens with a range of housing projects. While one project includes an affordable housing scheme, work on two integrated townships, with investments of Rs200 crore and Rs450 crore respectively, has also begun in the area. Also, on the anvil is the establishment of a five-star hotel and a three-star property, a shopping mall, and multiplexes.
The Auda's new chairman, Dharmendra Shah, said that the authority was committed to working for the development of the areas associated with it. "We have been working sincerely for the citizens' interests," Shah said.
A senior Auda official said that a majority of the projects, for which MoUs were signed at the VGGIS, related to housing. "Construction on most of the housing projects has started," the official said. "The housing schemes will benefit citizens of all sections. And projects such as the floriculture zone and the convention centre will also add to the city's infrastructure."
Officials said the work on the majority of the ongoing projects would be completed by next year.
