16-year-old girl commits suicide in Kanpur

Apparently upset over her father scolding her because of neglecting studies, a 16-year-old girl committed suicide by immolating herself.

Kajal, daughter of Anil Kumar Verma of KDA Colony in Babupurva area in the city, and a student of Oxford Model School, locked herself in the bathroom while her parents were out, poured kerosene and set herself on fire, a police spokesperson said.

Her brother Rishabh saw smoke coming out of the bathroom, and immediately called the neighbours, who broke open the door.

Kajal was immediately taken to hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Police have sent the body for post-mortem.
