16 railway under-bridges to come up in Delhi before CWG

A total of 16 railway under-bridges will come up in the national capital by June next year as part of efforts to ensure smooth traffic during the Commonwealth Games 2010.

Delhi finance minister AK Walia today reviewed progress of work in respect of 17 railway under-bridges (RUBs) on various railway crossings across the city and instructed departments concerned to expedite work on them.

The minister said work on 16 RUBs will be completed by June next year.

However, officials said the RUB at Sultanpuri may not be ready before the Commonwealth Games.

After commissioning of the 16 RUBs, traffic flow in various parts of the city will improve considerably, Walia said.

He said problems like land acquisition have been holding up work in certain projects which will be settled soon.

The construction of 17 RUBs would cost Rs480 crore which would be equally shared by MCD and Railways.

The RUBs are being constructed at railway crossings at Vivek Vihar, Sarai Kale Khan, Prem Nagar-Sewa Nagar, Najafgarh-Bijwasan road, Bijwasan, Narela-Lampur road, Shakur Basti, Kirti Nagar-Prem Nagar, Samaypur Badli, GT Industrial Area, Rohtak road, Mundka, Mangolpuri, Sultanpuri, Roshanara Garden and Kishan Ganj.
