A day after Chief Justice JS Khehar voiced concerns  over shortage of judges, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday expressed hope of resolving issues of the judiciary with the new CJI.

“I can tell you now that with the leadership of Justice Khehar as the new Chief Justice, we will be able to work together in a very meaningful way to address the concerns in judiciary, to expedite appointments, to ensure people of merit are appointed and also overall reinforce infrastructure needed for justice delivery,” Prasad said at conference on judicial reforms here.

Justice Khehar’s predecessor Justice TS Thakur was quite vocal about the issues concerning judiciary, and on several occasions he blamed the government for shortage of judges. The relations between Justice Thakur and the government were constrained ever since the Supreme court struck down the former’s move to bring in National Judicial Appointments Commission for appointments of judges.
