Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today urged people to take a pledge to uphold the nation`s sovereignty, integrity and contribute for its peace and prosperity.

"I extend my heartiest wishes to the citizens of our great nation. Let us resolve to dedicate ourselves to take our nation to greater heights on all fronts. We should take a pledge to uphold the nation's sovereignty, integrity and contribute our might for the peace and prosperity," she said in a her message on the eve of 71st Independence Day.

She said that while recalling selfless freedom fighters who dedicated their lives for freedom of our nation "we should pledge to uphold our nation`s sovereignty, integrity and contribute our might for peace and prosperity." Chief Minister V Narayansamy, in his message, recalled the selfless services of great stalwarts in freedom movement and called for dedicated service on the part of everyone to measure up to the spirit of freedom.

He also highlighted the progress the Union Territory had made in different sectors.

Speaker V Vaithilingam, PWD Minister A Namassivayam, Welfare Minister M Kandasamy, Lok Sabha member R Radhakrishnan and leaders of different parties greeted the people on the eve of independence day.
