Recently, the prompt action by IAF crew helped save the life of 9-year-old Taufik in Jammu and Kashmir. Taufik was in state of dire distress when the IAF’s actions helped transport him to safety.

Nine-year-old Taufik started suffering acute pain as a result of a very serious case of appendicitis, at night recently. Hailing from Gurez in Kashmir, he unfortunately didn’t have the necessary medical facilities nearby for treatment. The only option was to evacuate him to Srinagar for treatment. A message for an evacuation was received at Airforce Station Srinagar at night and the crew of the helicopter was put on standby. However, bad weather at Gurez prevented the helicopter from going airborne in the morning.

The helicopter was then put on another assignment. On the way back from this assignment, the crew of the helicopter received a message that the weather at Gurez had improved marginally.

Not one to let such a moment pass by, the helicopter was immediately diverted to the landing where they picked up Taufik and his father who were evacuated to Srinagar.

Taufik is now recuperating in a hospital in Srinagar and is out of danger. All thanks to the prompt action by IAF and its highly-motivated crew led by Squadron Leader Vinit Singh Sikarwarand co-pilot Lakshay Mittal of ‘Hovering Hawks’ saved a young life.
