Senior Congress leader and Parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor has slammed Pakistan for its blatant misrepresentation of facts on the Kashmir issue at the Inter-Parliamentary Union Standing Committee on UN Affairs meeting.

Tharoor lashed out at Pakistan at the 141st Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union, in Belgrade, saying, "It's ironic that the state (Pak) responsible for inflicting countless cross border terrorist attacks on Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) is trying to masquerade as a champion of the international law."

Tharoor called out at Pakistani delegation views on Article 370 abrogation as "vitriolic outburst" and said that the matter is internal to India and outrightly rejected a false narrative being propagated by Islamabad.

He said Pakistani delegation has resorted to a blatant misrepresentation of facts and recycled the false narrative being peddled by his country for its own narrow political purposes and petty territorial ambitions.

"I regret the vitriolic outburst by the panelist resorted to blatant misrepresentation of facts and false narrative being peddled by his country for its own narrow political purposes and petty territorial purposes. This is a disappointing misuse of this platform. Pakistan has raised an issue that is internal to India. Indian delegation outrightly rejects and strongly condemns such reference," Tharoor said.

He further lashed out at Pakistan saying the country which is home to 130 UN-designated terrorists, 25 terrorist entities listed by UN is speaking about human rights violation.

It is frankly absurd to hear about respect for human rights from the representative of such a state where terrorism is a possible destroyer of human rights. "We expect better from this forum," he added.

Nailing further into Pak, Tharoor said, "We hear Pakistan referring to US security council resolutions on Kashmir, but very conveniently forgets its own obligation under the very first of those resolutions which ask it to first vacate illegal occupation to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) as it has blatantly disregarded its other commitments under the international law whether its 1972 Shimla agreement or the Lahore declaration of February 1999.
