Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a day-long tour of his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, on Friday distributed E-rickshaws and Cycle-rickshaws at the multi-purpose ground of Cantonment Board.

PM Modi distributed 501 Cycle-rickshaw and 101 E-rickshaw, along with 602 cheques to the Jan-Dhan scheme beneficiaries under Rupay card skill development scheme as scheduled.

Talking about E-rickshaws, he said that it will change the future of Varanasi & when tourists will come to the temple city, the first interactions they will have will be with rickshaw drivers."

PM Modi also distributed 1,000 solar lights among the poor. Two youth Reyazul Haque and Shah Nawaz were awarded certificates of Skill Development for their promising performance under Skill Development Program run by the centre.

Addressing the gathering, Modi said, "The aim of my government is to make poor self-sufficient. For years we have only heard the slogan of 'garibi hatao'. Our efforts to remove poverty over the years have not yielded the results we desired. The speed (of removing poverty) needs to improve."

This was the Prime Minister's third visit to the ancient temple town after assuming office in May last.

The much-awaited tour comes eight months after his last visit on December 25 last year. Two of his previous proposed visits were cancelled due to heavy rainfall in June and July.
