Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Yogi Adityanath convened a high-level meeting of the police and home department officials on Monday after the body of two-year-old girl was found in a garbage dump at Tappal in Aligarh.

During the meeting, CM directed the officials to reactivate much-hyped Anti-Romeo Squad, launch awareness campaigns and integrate child and women helpline 181 with UP Dial 100.

On June 2, the body of a two-year-old girl was found in a garbage dump, three days after she was reported missing. A couple of days later the incident triggered a massive outrage with celebrities and Opposition members tweeting against poor law and order situation in the state.

The girl's father alleged that she was killed because he failed to repay the loan of Rs 10,000 to the accused. A case was registered against the main accused identified as Zahid (27) following which he was arrested on June 4. Shagufta (32) and Mehndi Hasan, the wife and brother of Zahid, were arrested on June 8.

The police also arrested Aslam (43) on June 4, who was earlier charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) in 2014 and 2017. Aslam also faced charges under Uttar Pradesh's Goonda Act.

Tension prevailed in the area after the victim's family alleged that police officials delayed the registration of their complaint. The senior police swung into action and suspended five policemen for negligence on Friday and assured locals that justice would be done in the case. The police however, reiterated that the postmortem examination by a panel of three doctors found no evidence of sexual assault.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the DGP OP Singh to reactivate Anti-Romeo Squads all over the state, take help from Child and Women Welfare Department in organising awareness campaign at schools and colleges and to prioritise cases related to mob-lynching, SC/STs and children and women.

DGP OP Singh said that directives were also given to prepare a database of at least 10 rape accused and with the help from judiciary expedite the cases so that accused could be convicted
