Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Monday arrested 12 persons, including four doctors, for allegedly trying to leak the Combined Pre-Medical Test (CPMT) paper and providing answer keys of the exam.

The arrests were made on a tip-off after which STF personnel swung into action and used electronic surveillance to nab them from Gautam Palli area, STF said.

The four doctors - Raman Dwaj Singh, Anshuman Mishra, Abhimanyu Singh and Rajesh Ranjan - were promised Rs 50,000 for solving the paper which was to be passed to examinees appearing for CPMT at different centres, including the state capital, on Monday.

The kingpin of the gang, Prafulla Chandra Vaish, was also arrested and during interrogation he said they used to charge between Rs 5-15 lakh for helping examinees secure admission in medical colleges, STF said.

A number of electronic and spying devices have been recovered from their possession.

The CPMT was cancelled last year on June 22 after the examination paper for entrance to medical colleges in the state was found to have been leaked in Ghaziabad.
