UP: Major rivers including Ganga, Yamuna receding in flood affected areas

Over nine hundred villages are still flooded in Varanasi and Allahabad divisions despite receding of the rivers.

All major rivers including Ganga and Yamuna are receding in flood affected areas in Uttar Pradesh, although hundred of villages are still flooded in Varanasi, Gazipur, Ballia and Allahabad districts.

In Ballia, the crack occurred in ring embankment has almost submerged three nearby villages Gopalpur, Dubeychapra and Udayechapra. NDRF and PAC flood units are engaged in relief and rescue operations there.

Despite receding rivers more than nine hundred villages are still flooded in Varanasi and Allahabad divisions. In Ballia, a crack occurred in ring embankment today created immediate flood threat in more than 30 villages since river water of overflowing Ganga river is entering in villages. NDRF and PAC flood units have already deployed in relief and rescue operations.

The state government also instructed officials in flood affected areas to ensure cleanness drive to prevent outbreak of any disease.

About 75 thousand people are still in relief camps in Varanasi and Allahabad division's districts. 

State government has asked the district officials to ensure continuous monitoring of relief works and supply of relief materials.
