Two killed amidst subdued Eid celebrations in Kashmir

Two youths were killed and several people, including security personnel, were injured in clashes in Kashmir on Tuesday.

Clashes at several place led to subdued Eid celebrations in the Valley.

Army has inducted a brigade, roughly 3,000 troops, in south Kashmir to augment the security forces dealing with current protests.

Curfew was imposed in all the 10 districts of the Valley.

Sources said the additional troops have been deployed as per the fresh strategy to quell the unrest. Sources said additional troops will provide collaborative support to the forces who are dealing with the current unrest.

"Once the situation becomes normal, the forces will sit again to review whether the additional troops need to be de-inducted or permanently stationed in south Kashmir," said a top source.

Meanwhile, it was a blood soaked Eid in Kashmir on Tuesday after two youth were killed and six others injured when security forces fired on the protestors in Shopian and Bandipora districts.

Despite a strIct curfew, protests erupted after Eid prayers across Kashmir.

Clashes were reported from Bandipora after namaz prompting the security forces to fire smoke shells. A youth was killed when he was hit by a smoke shell and several others were injured in clashes with security forces.
Another youth was killed in clashes with security forces in Shopian district.

Reports reaching here said people defied curfew and staged protests at different places. Protesters turned violent at some places and clashed with security forces.

Secuirity forces foiled the separatists' plan for march to UN office here. All roads leading to the UN office at Sonawar were sealed to thwart the procession.

For the first time, Eid prayers were not offered at Dargah Hazratbal and other revered shrines given the imposition of curfew.
