Two 'dons' of Bihar arrested by special cell of Delhi Police

The DCP added Thakur had been hiding in disguise in New Ashok Nagar area of Delhi for last two months.

Two of the most wanted gangsters of Bihar were arrested by Special Cell of Delhi police after receiving inputs that the duo were taking shelter in the city. According to official sources, the two might have been planning to travel to their hometowns in Bihar ahead of the state elections in order to work as 'muscle' for various political parties.

The accused, identified as Gorakh Thakur (35) and Zakir Ali (26), are natives of Bihar's West Chamaparan district and have 40 criminal cases registered between them. The Special Cell on Tuesday said that the two were arrested in Najafgarh and Rohini areas of Delhi after receiving a tip off.

The duo are accused of murder, extortion, dacoity, kidnapping for ransom, assault, criminal intimidation and drug trafficking, and have been arrested previously on multiple occasions. 

"Thakur is also involved in smuggling of narcotic drugs and has been arrested for two such cases. He was convicted for 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.1 lakh was slapped against him in one such case of NDPS Act," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajeev Ranjan. 

The DCP added Thakur had been hiding in disguise in New Ashok Nagar area of Delhi for last two months. Elaborating on the profile of 26-year-old Zakir Ali, officials told dna the alleged gangster was involved in more than 15 criminal cases and wanted in nine fresh ones.

"Ali is having a rivalry another criminal Sameer Ansari, and both of them have attacked each other several times. Ansari along with his associates had fired many rounds upon Zakir about two years ago and had left him was injured in that fight. He too was arrested by Special Cell last month," the DCP added.

According to senior officials, the duo might have been in talks with political bosses in Bihar ahead of the elections. "The two are quite notorious and political parties would not like to even associate with them. But we have seen in the past, vested interests try to flare up the environment right before elections," said a senior police official.
