Two days after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's car was allegedly stolen from outside the Delhi Secretariat, the vehicle was found abandoned in Ghaziabad on Saturday morning. No arrests have been made, so far.

The car, a blue WagonR, was found in a service lane near the Narendra Mohan Hospital by some locals, who then informed the Ghaziabad Police. Their Delhi counterparts were contacted around 8 am.

"The car was verified and brought to the IP Estate police station. Prima facie, it seems somebody took it for a joy ride and then abandoned it. However, we have not ruled out the involvement of an organised gang behind the theft," said Madhur Verma, PRO, Delhi Police.

The car had gone missing on Thursday. The next day, Kejriwal sent a letter to Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal, stating that the common man did not feel safe in the Capital. "My WagonR was stolen from outside the Central Secretariat," he wrote.

"My car getting stolen is a small thing. But a CM's car getting stolen right in front of the Central Secretariat points towards the state of law and order in the Capital. In the light of the recent incident, what value does the life of a common man really hold?" the CM added.

He further stated: "If you ask any commoner in Delhi about the security and safety situation, you will get a negative response. I know that upon receiving my letter, the Delhi Police will respond with facts and figures that would help their so-called case but the truth is evident for all of us to see."

Meanwhile, the police are checking CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the miscreants. In the last two days, the Delhi Police had formed many teams to track the car. These teams had been raiding car dealers, deserted parking lots, and scrap dealers in NCR.

Verma said the car did not have any security features installed and it was parked at a spot that was not being manned by guards. "The AAP media cell in-charge, who had been using the vehicle, had parked it around 1 pm on Thursday. The matter was reported to the Delhi Police at 3pm. We have many clues, including CCTV footage, which show that the car was taken towards western UP. Many places in Mathura, Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Noida were raided. Gangs of auto-lifters were also scanned," he said.

The officer further advised people to install GPS in their vehicles to make it easier for the police to recover stolen vehicles in the Capital. He said putting a brake on the auto theft menace is one of the priorities of the Delhi Police and all possible efforts in this regard are being made.
