Trivendra Singh Rawat to be next CM of Uttarakhand, to take oath on Saturday

Rawat is a senior BJP leader with RSS roots.

The Uttarakhand BJP legislature party has elected Trivendra Singh Rawat as the next CM of the state. The decision was taken in the presence of the party's central observers.

The BJP scored a massive victory in the recently held Assembly elections winning 57 of the 70 seats.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Parade Ground here on Saturday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah and a host of prominent party leaders from the country as well as the state attending it. Rawat, who will be administered oath of office and secrecy by Governor Krishna Kant Paul at the Raj Bhavan in Dehradun tomorrow, will succeed Congress leader Harish Rawat to become the eighth Chief Minister of the hill state.

 Doiwala MLA Trivendra Singh Rawat is a long time party worker with resonable experience in governance. His RSS roots may have tipped the scale in his favour.  Trivendra who is incharge of party affairs in Jharkhand and is also credited for guiding the party to victory there is also known for his proximity with the party's central leaders. Rawat along with the BJP MLAs and central observer JP Nadda has reached the Raj Bhawan here to stake claim to form the next government in the state.

The 56-year-old BJP leader was state agriculture minister in 2007-2012. He is a three time MLA.
