After withdrawal of candidature by Independent candidate Vanlalngaia today, election to Mizoram's lone Lok Sabha seat would be a triangular one.

The three candidates in the fray were C L Ruala of the ruling Congress, Robert Romawia Royte of the United Democratic Front (UDF), an alliance of eight opposition parties, and M Lalmanzuala of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

There would be a straight fight in the by-election to the Hrangturzo Assembly constituency which was necessitated after Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, who won from two seats in the Assembly polls held on November 25 last year, vacated the seat.

Vanlalawmpuii Chawngthu of the Congress would be facing UDF nominee H Lalduhawma who unsuccessfully contested the last Assembly elections from the same seat.

Meanwhile, no nominations were rejected in the scrutiny conducted today. The last date of withdrawal of nomination is March 26.
