Tata Steel Collieries receive National Safety Awards

Tata Steel's Mines and it's Collieries at Jamadoba and Digwadih have been conferred the National Safety Awards by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The awards were presented by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee at a function held at Delhi yesterday, a Tata Steel press release today said..

Digwadih colliery of Tata Steel bagged the winner's prize for mines safety among the Group 'A' collieries producing more than 90,000 tonne of coal per annum for the contesting year 2011 and it was also selected as winner in the category 'Lowest Injury Frequency Rate' for contesting year 2012 while Jamadoba Colliery bagged the Runner's up prize in the category 'Longest Accident Free Period' for the contesting year 2011.

On this occasion Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Labour and Employment, Bandaru Dattatreya, Shankar Aggarwal, Secretary (MOL&E) and Director General of Mines Safety Rahul Guha were also present.

Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India instituted National Safety Awards (Mines) in 1983 (for the contest year 1982) with a view to promote a competitive spirit amongst mine operators for the betterment of safety standards in mines and to give due recognition to outstanding safety performance at national level.
