The alleged mastermind in the murder of slain NIA officer Tanzil Ahmed, who was arrested on Tuesday by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police in Noida, has said that he had his reasons for what he did and that he has no regrets.

"I have no regrets and I had my reasons for what I did," Muneer said before being taken in for interrogation. He also admitted that he was part of the duo that robbed Rs 90 lakh outside an ATM booth in Kamlanagar area of Delhi in November 2014.

IG STF Ram Kumar said, "Munir is being interrogated in police custody. He was being hunted for almost three months. We will share more details later in the day." He carried cash reward of Rs 50,000.

Mohammad Tanzil was on his way back from the marriage ceremony of his niece, along with his wife and two children, when two armed bike-borne assailants shot at him and his wife at a village falling under Syohra Police Station in Bijnor district.

Ahmed's wife Farzana succumbed to gunshot injuries nine days later at the AIIMS trauma centre. Four people had been arrested earlier in connection with Ahmed's murder.
