Tamil Nadu polls: Congress, DMK seat-sharing pact yet to be finalised

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday met Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi to discuss seat sharing between the two parties for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. However, no decision was made on the numbers.

"We discussed election strategy with the DMK leadership. We discussed the seat-sharing. However, numbers have not been finalised. We have given some time to the DMK and we will also discuss among ourselves," Azad said commenting on the outcomes of the meetings.

Meanwhile, DMK leader MK Stalin said that the Congress leaders would discuss things with their leadership and get back to them.
"We discussed seat sharing with Congress, and they have put forth certain demands. We had cordial discussions. The Congress leaders will discuss with their leadership and get back to us," Stalin told the media.

The Congress had last month announced that it will contest the Tamil Nadu elections in alliance with the DMK.

Congress had contested the last Lok Sabha elections on its own and had drawn a blank. It had contested the last Assembly elections along with DMK, but had secured just five seats.

Tamil Nadu will vote in a single phase on May 16 while the results will be announced on May 19.

Tamil Nadu has 234 assembly seats. In the 2011 assembly elections, AIADMK had won 150, DMDK-29, DMK-23, CPM-10, CPI-9 and others-13 seats respectively.
