With upcoming elections in four states on his mind, BJP chief Amit Shah has asked party MPs to ensure that they remain connected with voters. The elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand are seen as a litmus test for the Modi regime.

Shah, who addressed BJP MPs in the central hall of parliament on Thursday, said their conduct inside and outside the House would reflect on the party. This is the first time that a party chief is addressing the BJP's parliamentary party in the Central Hall.

He said the MPs should stay in touch with the people through "Sampark, Samvaad, Samanvaya (Contact, Communication and Coordination)" and open an office in their constituency to connect with the public. The BJP is trying to ensure that the mood of the general elections is translated into votes in the assembly elections.

In a bid to ensure that MPLADs funds are constructively used, Shah suggested that MPs set up a panel and decide "how, where and when" it should be used.

Shah, who was introduced by prime minister Narendra Modi, said the people had a lot of hope from the party and it was upto them to live up to their expectations.

Like Modi, he too asked members to take part in parliament and study the subject ahead of it being debated in the House. Shah will be ratified by the BJP's national council as party chief on August 9. The BJP is expecting around 1,200 party members to participate in the day-long meet being held here.
