The death of BJP MLA Kirti Kumari due to swine flu has exposed the poor medical facilities and laxity in treatment of patients caught by influenza H1N1 at SMS hospital, the largest health institute of the state.

As per the doctors, the MLA was shifted to a private hospital as she complained of breathlessness and was required to be kept on ECMO (Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) ventilator. Astonishingly, SMS hospital dose does not have any ECMO ventilator as said in a release by hospital superintendent.

On the other hand, state health minister Kalicharan Saraf has a wrong misleading information. "Due to lungs infection, she was needed to be put on ECMO. However, all the ECMO ventilators at SMS hospital were occupied," Saraf said at Fortis Hospital on Monday.

"After inquiring from Eternal Hospital and Fortis Hospital, she was shifted to this hospital as ACMO ventilator here was available," said Saraf.

Meanwhile, Kirti Kumari's death also fetched allegation of negligence in treatment. "Government didn't show promptness in ensuring her treatment at best facility," Rajput Sabha Bhavan president Giriraj Singh Lotwara said. "I was there. She was not given proper treatment at the SMS Hospital and shifting to Fortis was delayed. She was left on the account of some resident doctors and no senior doctor was there to attend her. Moreover, no senior politician or minister from the government visited her when she was admitted to the SMS Hospital," said Lotwara.

It is worth to mention that swine flu has emerged as a big threat in the state. As per the daily monitoring report from health department, the lethal disease has claimed 83 lives and 878 people have been tested positive for influenza H1N1 so far in 2017 in the state. Maximum 472 deaths were occurred due to Swine Flu in 2015 in the state.
