A shopkeeper in Jewar here has been booked for allegedly trying to rape a 10-year-old girl, police said today.

The incident was reported last night in Jehangirpur town, when the girl went to the accused's shop to buy some goods and he tried to force himself on her, a police official said.

When the girl screamed, some passersby and locals rushed to the shop and rescued her, Jewar police station in-charge Rajpal Tomar said.

The accused shopkeeper, Rahul, fled the spot, he said, adding a case has been registered against him and search is on to nab him.
