18-year-old Ramavatar Banwarilal Jatav was beaten to death and his eyes were gouged out by two drunk youths on Saturday in Pune, reported The Times of India

While crossing the road in an open space at Dhankawadi, the victim brushed against suspects' motorcycle, causing them minor injury and a little damage to the vehicle. Inspector A T Waghmale of Sahakarnagar police station which arrested the suspects, said that the suspects asked Jatav to pay Rs 2000 for the damages. When he said he didn't have the money, they got angry and beat him up.

The suspects identified as Sumit Sudhir Kale (21) and Akshay alias Bhima Bappu Divate (23) had planned to run away after the incident but police officials nabbed them within eight hours. The two suspects, both school dropouts, were arrested by the Sahakarnagar police.

Police said Jatav was a skilled labourer specialising in tile fitting from Madhya Pradesh. He had come to Pune to visit his cousins. Waghmale told TOI that the suspects had brutally bludgeoned Jatav. As they had injured his face and gouged his eyes out, it was difficult to ascertain his identity, but Jatav's relatives managed to do so.
