Seven killed in road mishap in Kerala

The vehicle went out of control while negotiating a curve and fell into the pit and was completely submerged, police said.

Seven persons, including six members of a family, were killed when their vehicle plunged into a waterlogged pit on the national highway at Nandikara in the district today, police said. The family from Alathur in Palakkad district had gone to Nedumbassery airport to receive their son, Ishak Ismail, who arrived in Kerala from the Gulf early Friday.

Besides Ishak, those who died in the mishap are his father Ismail (72), his mother Howaumma (58), wife Hafsath (32), daughter Irfana (3), brother-in-law Manssor (42). The driver of the Tata Sumo, Krishnaprasad (36) died. Ishak's 10-year-old son, Hyas, was the only survivor.

The family was returning to their hometown in Alathur in Palakkad when tragedy struck their joyous ride home. The vehicle went out of control while negotiating a curve and fell into the pit and was completely submerged, police said.
