Separatist leader Masarat Alam received 50 calls from Pakistan after his release in March: Report

Separatist leader Masarat Alam had received around 50 calls from Pakistan shortly after he was released from jail on March 7, said news reports on Saturday.

According to The Tribune report, after the release of Masarat Alam on March 7, the central security agencies had reportedly told the Union Home Ministry and Mufti government that nearly 50 phone calls from Pakistan were made to Alam. 

Report also said that calls were reportedly made by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz. However, the central security agencies had no proof whether Hafiz Saeed had made a call to Masarat.

Recently, Hafiz Saeed, mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and Jamaat-ud-Dawa's (JuD) chief had called India 'the number one enemy'.

On April 23, tightening the noose around Masarat alam, Jammu and Kashmir authorities slapped the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) against him and shifted him out of the Valley to a jail in Jammu.

Bhat, who was released by the PDP-led government after spending over four years in jail under PSA, was again arrested on April 17 on charges of waging war against the country and sedition after he hoisted 

The separatist leaders have been booked under Sections 121-A (waging war against the country), 124 (Sedition), 120-B (Criminal Conspiracy), 147 (rioting) of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and other minor offences.
