An ongoing dispute over a property in south Mumbai took an ugly turn when four persons barged into the house of a senior citizen, a party to the dispute, allegedly assaulted him with iron rods, hockey sticks as well as bamboo sticks, and then made away with a Rolex watch, a Mont Blanc pen and cash, collectively worth Rs2.25 lakh.

According to a police complaint, Usman Shaikh, 60, was alone at his home in Kalyan Building, which he owns, at PB Marg on Grant Road around 2.45pm on Monday when four tenants — Hasan Saudagar, Mohamed Saudagar, Nawab Saudagar and Bhishm Saudagar — pushed their way in and assaulted him.
The police say the dispute is over the building’s redevelopment, which began around five years ago. The project was stalled when the owner gave the rights for it to another builder. “Residents who had to move out due to redevelopment are agitated,” says Ajit Surve, senior inspector of DB Marg police.

The four men and Shaikh have reportedly filed complaints against each other at several police stations.
