On Tuesday, a vessel belonging to Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) weighing approximately 2039 tonnes sank in the Arabian Sea about 95 nautical miles off Mumbai coast. 16 crew members onboard were rescued by crew from another SCI ship nearby. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) too swung into action and took stock of the situation.
According to ICG, the offshore tug/supply ship SCI Ratna, built in 2011, was on an assignment when it suffered glitches about 95 nautical miles off Mumbai. A distress call was made to the ICG. But they were spotted by another SCI ship nearby who rescued them. The 64-meter long ship sank completely after the rescue operations. "We had pressed our rescue vessel but they were rescued safely before we reached," said the Coast Guard spokesperson.
