Agrarian crisis and subsequent suicides by farmers have stirred country’s political cauldron. With political environment charged up over farmers’ suicide, Rajasthan could not have been an exception to political slugfest between ruling BJP and its arch rival Congress.

On Wednesday, State congress president announced a ‘Kisan March’ in Jhalawar and Bara, which is hometurf of chief minister Vasundhara Raje and her MP son Dushyant Singh. The CM represents Jhalarapatan in Jhalawar district whereas Dushyant is MP from Jhalawar and Baran.

Though announced came a bit late as CPM backed Kisan Sabha has walked away with credit for farm loan waiver after successful protest for nearly three weeks in Shekhawati area. However, without wasting any time after Pilot’s announcement, the BJP launched a verbal attack on him accusing him of doing politics and claimed that farmers are with Vasundhara Raje. BJP state general secretary Abhishek Matoria said that the government has already accepted farmers demand including loan waiver and implemented most recommendations of Swaminathan’s commission.

But, the important question is Pilot’s selection of area for his ‘Kisan March’.  He has carefully chosen Hadauti, which is stronghold of the BJP and known as RSS laboratory in Rajasthan.

For last three decades, Hadauti consisting of Kota, Bundi, Baran and Jhalawar has emerged as BJP’s stronghold. Now, Pilot is taking the battle straight into BJP and sangh’s den. Daudayal Joshi, H K Audichya, Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi, Raghuver Singh Kaushal, Anang Kumar Jain and Cbhaturbhuj Verma, are just to name a few from the long list to name a few from the long list of BJP stalwarts with RSS background who laid foundation of the party and worked hard to expand its base in the state came from RSS background and belong to this region.

Once trinity of Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi, Dau Dayal Joshi and Raghuveer Singh Kaushal ruled the roost in the region today chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s name is synonym with the BJP. The Congress has not been able to find a strong leader to contest against Raje or who can revive the party’s fortunes.

The party grew stronger in the region ever since Vasundhara Raje came here to contest parliamentary election from Jhalawar later she chose Jhalarapatan as her assembly constituency. Since 2004, her son Dushyant Singh has been representing Jhalawar-Baran parliamentary seat once represented by her mother.

Such is BJP’s dominance in Hadauti area that the Congress could win only one seat in the last assembly elections. Except Ashok Chandna from Hindauli no other congress candidate was successful. The party is now using Parwan project to defeat the BJP in its fiefdom but the ruling party too is ready for a counter attack.
