Suspended Maharashtra Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sunil Paraskar has been formally reinstated by the Maharashtra government. Paraskar is set to take charge as the new Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Mumbai soon.

A formal of the reinstatement order along with the new posting was uploaded by the Home department on the government's webpage on Thursday evening.

The senior IPS officer was discharged by the Dindoshi Sessions Court in December 2015 in the fraudulent rape case filed against him by a model.

The posting orders come almost a month after the state government reviewed Paraskar's year-long suspension from the service.  According to a senior state official, Paraskar's suspension was automatically revoked on August 27, 2015 based on All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules 1969 - rules 3 (1) (a) and 3 (1B).

"Thus, his reinstatement orders are backdated. His posting was on hold for almost a month and it seems a strong political boost from the top ensured his placement in Mumbai itself," the officer said.

Paraskar, who has only eight months of service left before bowing out of the force, is also due for promotion in the next month after the Departmental Enquiry (DE) set on him concludes.

Having served in several top positions in the Maharashtra Police, the senior IPS was suspended by the Home department under the Congress-NCP government in 2014.

An IPS officer, requesting anonymity said, "He was proven innocent in the case lodged against him and since then has been championed by the newly elected government. They feel he was framed."

Meanwhile, speaking to iamin on the phone, Paraskar said, "Am very thankful to the state government and am happy about the decision." He refused to comment any further on the claims made by state officials and other IPS officers.
