Pune cops to maintain presence around Bhima-Koregaon

The 201st celebrations of the Bhima-Koregaon battle went on without any untoward incident, but still the Pune rural police have not gone on their heels as they have decided to keep the police presence in and around Bhima-Koregaon . "Confidence-building measures in and around the villages will continue to maintain the harmony between communities," Sandip Patil, superintendent of police (Pune rural) said.

More than 10 lakh visitors visited the victory pillar at Koregaon-Bhima on Tuesday to mark the 201st anniversary of the battle fought between Peshwas and the army of British East India Company consisting soldiers from the Dalit community

On the backdrop of those clashes, Pune rural police officers had started confidence-building measures in and around Bhima-Koregaon to make sure that all the communities achieve the lost harmony.

Now, even after the peaceful celebrations at the victory pillar on the first day of the new year, the Pune rural police have decided to continue its confidence-building measures.

"Our meetings and other measures have yielded very good results and this time, there was not a single incident took place in any of the villages aroundthe area. We have decided to continue these measures even after the events to maintain peace in the area," Patil said.
