The suspension of work notice at Burn Standard Company Limited was withdrawn on Thursday. The notice was issued on Thursday after the members of the Trinamool Congress led-employees union allegedly dragged out the General Manager Santanu Sarkar and Deputy General Manager Sushanta Bhattacharya of the central government PSU and assaulted them. Work is likely to commence from Friday onwards.

As many as 175 casual workers of Burn Standard Company have been agitating outside the factory gates since February 11 and were on a hunger strike demanding re-hiring of workers, who were laid off last year by a contractor who quit due to a fall in wagon orders. Following the brawl, the PSU has issued 'Suspension of Work' notice, only to withdraw it later.

On Thursday, the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had rubbished the reports of a scuffle taking place between the employees union and the General Manager.

“I have cross-verified thrice through my sources. All of them have said that no vandalism has been reported. I spoke to the Howrah leaders of my party, they have also confirmed that a scuffle did not take place,” said Banerjee, adding, “Livelihood of the workers is concerned in the matter. The workers were on hunger strike. But they have suspended the work. This is not right. I am requesting the management to withdraw the suspension order.”
