A war of words broke out between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) over a purported video of anti-India slogans being raised in Araria following RJD's victory in the recently concluded by-poll.
The video, which went viral following the announcement of by-poll result in which RJD's Sarfaraz Alam won by a margin of over 60,000 votes, shows some youngsters raising 'Pakistan Zindabad' and 'Bharat Tere Tukde Honge' slogans. The police lodged an FIR in the matter and arrested three youth in connection with it.
The BJP has alleged that the anti-national slogans were raised by RJD supporters at Alam's residence in Araria following his victory. It has demanded a thorough probe into the matter.
"The video clearly shows the forces with which the Opposition has allied just to win a seat in the sensitive seemanchal region," said Sushil Kumar Modi, deputy CM and a senior BJP leader. He also said that the BJP will continue its fight against anti-national forces and those trying to protect them.
Some BJP leaders including its Bihar President Nityanand Rai and Union Minister Giriraj Singh had already courted controversy saying that Araria would turn into a terror hub if the RJD won the seat. An FIR was lodged against Rai for the remark.
RJD leaders, on the other hand, raised question on the veracity of the video claiming that it could have been doctored.
"There should be a forensic investigation to check if the video is real or has been tampered with. It could be the handiwork of the BJP or other anti-social element who are trying to disrupt the communal harmony in the area," said Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Leader of the Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly.
