Police arrest suspected ISI agent in Kolkata

The police are trying to verify his network across the city and apprehend other members related to the case.

Acting on a tip-off, the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested one suspected ISI agent over espionage on Saturday. 

The suspect, Akhtar Khan alias Raju was intercepted and arrested at Colootola in Central Kolkata with fake currency and several passports of different nations. 

"We arrested him from Central Kolkata with several incriminating documents and fake currency amounting to Rs.1,72,500. We are verifying whether he is an ISI agent or not," said Rajeev Mishra, Special Additional and Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Headquarters). 

According to sources, Khan is believed to be an Indian national who used to shuttle often between India and Pakistan. Khan used to travel often to neighbouring countries like - Bangladesh and Nepal. 

Sources also add, that he went to Pakistan in the year 1985 and returned to India in 2008. The police are trying to verify his network across the city and apprehend other members related to the case. 

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against him and slapped charges under sections 120 B, 121, 121 A, 122, 489 B, 489 C of the IPC. He will be produced before the Bankshall court on Sunday afternoon.
