Continuing with his innovative approach, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will connect with the Station House Officers (SHOs) of over 14,000 police stations of the country by sending his personal message on their mobile phones on the Republic Day.

The meet of the country top cops deliberated on several issues including the need to have a specific central law for the organised crimes that in addition to the traditional spheres of activities like extortion, protection money, contract killing, boot-legging, gambling, prostitution and smuggling now also includes drug trafficking, printing and smuggling counterfeit currency, illicit arms trading and money laundering.
The conference spread in several packed sessions for two-an-half days also dwelt on the need to identify and fill the gaps to tackle cyber crimes and economic offences. It also sought amendment in the criminal procedure code (CrPC) to tackle delays in criminal jurisprudence.
In a marathon session held on the final day, issues of terror, IS and radicalisation of youths were discussed in detail. The meet observed the need to take the help of the technology to the fullest by upgrading it at the police station level to tackle radicalisation among youth.
It also sought empowering the community, especially in the potential terror hubs to tackle the youth from going astray and sensitising police to understand the difference between a highly religious and radicalised person.
PM Modi advice to the top cops was to take local communities into confidence in policing and technology should be used in tackling crimes.
"Police forces should establish links with local communities and one way of doing this is to celebrate the successes and achievements of people in the community," he said.
The top cops also took up topics like women's safety, better inter-state policing, police reforms, steps to bring competitive spirit between police officers reforms at police station level and bringing uniformity in police uniforms across India.
The PMO gave detailed directions to every state on which compliance report will have to be submitted by every state in a time bound manner.
