National Conference MLA Akbar Lone embarrassed his party by shouting 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans in the Assembly at a time when security forces were battling Jaish-e-Mohommad fidayeens in the 36 brigade headquarters in Sunjuwan Jammu.

Soon after the House met, BJP lawmakers started shouting 'Pakistan Murdabad' to protest the fidayeen attack. They added that Pakistan is the sponsor of terror.

As the sloganeering was underway, Lone quickly rose and shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad' in the House, creating a situation that lead to acrimonious exchanges in the House. "I am a Muslim. He said something against Muslims which hurt my sentiments. In response to this, I said it (Pakistan Zindabad)," Lone later said, explaining his remarks.

National Conference (NC) was quick to distance itself from him. "We need to focus on the unfortunate developments in Sunjuwan Army camp and not get distracted by misplaced slogans," tweeted former chief minister Omar Abdullah.

NC state spokesperson, Junaid Mattu, said "Lone's slogans in the Legislative Assembly are completely unacceptable to the party."
