Days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif at the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, a former Indian Navy officer was on Thursday arrested in Balochistan for allegedly spying and being involved in "subversive" activities.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), however, said that the person -- who has been identified as Kul Yadav Bhushan -- "has no link with government since his premature retirement from Indian Navy". "We have sought consular access to him.

India has no interest in interfering in internal matters of any country and firmly believes that a stable and peaceful Pakistan is in the interest of all in the region," MEA spokesperson Vikash Swarup said.

"The Pakistan Foreign Office said in a statement on Friday that "The Indian High Commissioner (in Islamabad) Gautam Bambawale was summoned by the Foreign Secretary today and through a demarche conveyed our protest and deep concern on the illegal entry into Pakistan by a RAW officer and his involvement in subversive activities in Balochistan and Karachi."

Swarup also said that the matter was raised on Friday by Pakistan's Foreign Secretary with the Indian high commissioner in Islamabad.

The Indian Navy, meanwhile denied any response when asked for one by dna.

Pakistan, on the other hand alleged that Bhushan, a commander-rank officer of the Indian Navy was a spy of India's intelligence agency RAW (Research and Analysis Wing).

He has been taken to Islamabad for interrogation.

According to reports in Pakistani media, Bhushan was arrested during a raid in Balochistan province even as the exact location of the arrest was not known yet. Balochistan home minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti told agencies that the arrest "proved Indian involvement in Balochistan" even as Pakistan have, for long, accused India of stoking unrest in region. So has India accused Pakistan for the same in Kashmir.
