'Obama is now Sudama': Twitter joins Yogi Adityanath's renaming bandwagon

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday adopted a proposal to rename the historic city of Allahabad as Prayagraj, a move opposed by many in and outside the state. Adityanath said the decision to rename Allahabad was taken keeping in view the feelings and emotions of the people.

"Allahabad has been renamed Prayagraj by our government. Five hundred years ago the name of the place was Prayagraj as it is at the `Triveni Sangam' (a confluence of three rivers)," Adityanath said.

While opposition leaders criticised the BJP government's move, Twitter users have found another reason to show their meme-making talent. 

Since Tuesday, Twitterati have been flooding the internet with memes suggesting new names for many celebs, mocking Yogi in the process. On Friday, hashtag #AajSeTumharaNaam became one of the top trends in India with Twitter users sharing memes using the hashtag. 

From former US President Barack Obama to incumbent Russian President Vladimir Putin, many were bestowed with new names. Twitter users, however, gave all the credit to the UP chief minister.
