In his first television appearance after becoming the CM of Uttar Pradesh, Adityanath advocated Hindutva and a Hindu Rashtra for the overall development of India. Ignoring controversies, he announced that his government will include Yoga in the syllabus and make it mandatory in all schools in the state.

In an exclusive interview to Doordarshan, the UP CM reiterated that "there was nothing wrong in the Hindu Rashtra theory and taking a step forward in this direction".

Yogi and his Hindu Yuva Vahini has been spearheading a movement for many years to declare India as a Hindu Rashtra. Yogi's categorical statement on Hindu Rashtra and Yoga is bound to kick a fresh row in the country. In the interview, he said that even the Supreme Court has given a clear mandate on the issue saying "Hindutva is not a text, religion or worship but a way of life."
