A naxal was arrested and explosive recovered from his possession in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district, police said on Saturday. The cadre Ramulu Punem (24) was apprehended near Ponjer village under Bijapur police station limits while he was trying to flee along with a tiffin bomb to the core forest yesterday, a senior police official told PTI.

A squad of local police was mobilised from Bijpaur towards restive Pamalwaya, Ponjer and Bhogamguda forests, located around 450 kms away from here, on a combing operation. On spotting a suspected person near Ponjer rivulet they rounded up him after a chase, the official said. During interrogation, he admitted of being involved in the outlawed movement as a local village level member. A 2-kg tiffin bomb, 20 meter wire and other materials were recovered from his possession, he said.
