National Herald Case: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee expresses solidarity with Sonia Gandhi

Expressing her solidarity with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul over receiving summons from a trial in the national Herald case, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said it's sad that she (Sonia) was asked to appear in the court.

"If I get time, I will meet Sonia ji, and will wish her on her birthday," she said.

Elaborating on her meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mamata said: "Last time, when I had come to Delhi, the Prime Minister was on a trip abroad; and that is why, I have to come again. There was nothing new, and I have come here to seek flood and drought reliefs for Bengal. Flood had hit Bengal six months back, but there are many areas, where we haven't got money."

"At present, we are paying 8-10 thousand crores as interest for the money lent by the Left Front Government, and if we pay such a huge amount as interest, how we will do development," said Mamata, demanding a full-fledged meeting of the Niti Aayog, where they could discuss such things.

"Swami Vivekananda, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and Rabindranath Tagore were from Bengal, then why the state is deprived," she said.
