Mumbai University sees sharp rise in enrolment for law courses

According to the report, Mumbai University has seen a 110% rise in enrolment in its affiliated law colleges while enrolment in engineering has risen by just 40%.

Mumbai University has seen a jump in the number of new colleges keen on starting law courses in the city. The University received over 50% application from new colleges for law courses, a leading news daily reported.

The increased interest in law is being attributed to rise in opportunities available since the option is no longer limited to simply practicing law. 

The University's former dean of law Narayan Rajadhyaksha told the newspaper that students now had avenues like cyber law, intellectual property rights and banking to explore in law.

According to the report, Mumbai University has seen a 110% rise in enrolment in its affiliated law colleges while enrolment in engineering has risen by just 40%.

Enrolment for the five year course has also increased from 120 students in 2009-10 to 1500 for the academic year 20150-16, the report quotes University statistics.
