Mumbai rains: Railway services delayed; water logging reported in several places

Rains continued to lash the island city on Monday –the fourth day in a row, with Western Railway announcing that train services had been delayed due to flooding on the tracks.

Due to very heavy rains since last night, water on tracks at Nallasopara. Traffic on UP fast line (from Churchgate in South Mumbai to Virar in the North of the city) stopped as water reached 180 mm above rail level. Trains running on other 3 lines at Nallasopara on restricted speed. Due to water over 180 mm on UP fast line at Nallasopara, traffic stopped on it, hence there is delay of about 15 mins in suburban trains. Other 3 lines at Nallasopara working with trains running on restricted speed,” Western Railway said on Twitter.

Central Railway announced that its services were running despite delay. However, the Foot over bridge (FOB) at Kurla station was waterlogged due to heavy rains.

On the CR, trains were late due to water logging at areas of Sion, Kurla, Kalwa, Thane. "Trains are running despite heavy rains," said a CR official.

The rail service are operating late by 20-30mins on both lines.

Meanwhile the roads saw traffic on road though there is little water logging that would obstruct vehicles. "I reached Powai within 40mins," said S Ohri, resident of Kandivali (E).

Mumbai Metro services are running normally. Also there is no impact on air traffic at Mumbai airport though flights are delayed between 10-20 minutes.

Other parts of the city have reported heavy water logging. "Kings circle Gandhi market flooded at 9.15 hrs. Road closed from Maheshwari Udyan to Sion hospital Northbound diverted via Bhaudaji Road and Southbound via flyover," Ridlr Mumbai tweeted.

Several areas have reported water-logging of at least one feet. Areas such as King's Circle, Sathe Bridge, Suman Nagar, Mulund-Sonapur junction, Kurla Kajupada, Anand Nagar on Dahisar Link Road are some of the areas mentioned.

Meanwhile, traffic has been diverted due o water logging at Andheri subway. The south-bound traffic at Bahar bridge in Andheri is moving slow due to potholes on Sahar elevated corridor. Waterlogging has been reported at Hindmata junction, south-bound after Kalanagar bridge in Bandra and north-bound near Kherwadi junction in the same area have also witnessed water-logging

A number of residents have also been tweeting live updates on which roads to follow. "Please avoid Ghodbunder Route towards Thane and Towards Fountain.. Extreme Water Logging!!(sic)," one user tweeted.

There are chances that BEST buses will have their routes diverted due to the rains. Routes were diverted on Sunday, BMC's disaster management tweeted on Sunday.

As per Skymet Weather, on and off heavy rains are expected to continue for another 48 hours. The maximum temperature will be recorded around 29 degree Celsius and humidity around 86%

In the last 48, the city has received around 55 mm rainfall while Eastern and Western Suburbs received 133 and 112 mm rainfall.

Water-logging has been reported at several places including Hindmata in Parel, Milan Subway in Andheri, Kings Circle in Sion and National college area.

As per the disaster cell of BMC, a 3.59 metre high tide is expected this evening

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there will be heavy rainfalls at a few places in the city. Heavy rains are expected in districts of Thane, Palghar and Mumbai till July 11, which may lead to adverse weather and traffic conditions.
