The BMC on Wednesday filed a report in the Bombay High Court saying that from the period between June 10 and July 30, it has attended to 91.17% of complaints it received regarding potholes.

The report was filed while hearing a suo-motu PIL that highlighted the pothole problems during monsoons. The report said that the BMC received 1,642 complaints of which it attended to 1,497, with 145 complaints pending.

The report also states that citizens can lodge their complaints through various modes such as WhatsApp and the BMC website and mobile app.

The court had earlier while giving directions noted that "It was the fundamental right of citizens to have pothole-free roads and encroachment-free footpaths/pathways. It also placed responsibility on the authorities to ensure protection of citizens’ rights. "

The court has accordingly asked the state and corporations to come out with grievance redressal mechanism where citizens can easily lodge complaints.

Advocate Abhinandan Vagyani appearing for the state sought time of two weeks to file its compliance report. The court granted the same, accordingly posted the matter for further hearing after two weeks.
