Members of Parliament raised the issue of an educational body affiliated to RSS wanting to sanitise NCERT books first reported by DNA on July 8.

Referring to news reports that NCERT wants Rabindranath Tagore out of school text books, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien said that the HRD Ministry has a lot to explain on the issue.

DNA had reported earlier that an education body affiliated to ruling BJP's ideological parent RSS wants to 'sanitise' NCERT's Class 1-12 Hindi textbooks by removing Urdu and Persian words. The Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, under RSS ideologue Dinanath Batra, also wants to remove verses of Mirza Ghalib and other Urdu poets from the books.

Serious concerns were raised in Rajya Sabha on multiple question papers being given to students appearing for NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test).

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Derek O'Brien (TMC) said till 2013, the English question paper for medical entrance examination, NEET, used to be translated into regional languages. But this year, those attempting NEET in Bengali or Tamil got question papers that were entirely different, he said, adding that 40,000 of the 56,000 students who wrote the exam in Bengali or Tamil had 'disastrous' results.

AIADMK members also demanded scrapping the applicability of NEET to Tamil Nadu. A Navaneethakrishnan (AIADMK) said a uniform NEET syllabus should be introduced first.

Both TMC and AIADMK members wanted the government to respond, but with no word coming, they rushed into the Well of the House raising anti-NEET slogans.
