Mizoram government will take a decision on banning Maggi noodles only after receiving directions from the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI).

Joint director (food and drugs) of the state health department Lalsawma told PTI that the Centre had not issued any instruction to the Mizoram government except to take precautionary measures even as some states have banned Maggi instant noodles.

"We are in close contact with the FSSAI and will take decisions in accordance with its instructions," he said.

Meanwhile, the state government has banned import and sale of four energy drinks following instructions from the FSSAI, he said.

The state food safety commissioner issued an order on Thursday banning energy drinks like Monster, Tzinga, Cloud 9 pomegranate/grape and Akoarama.

Madhya Pradesh and Bihar ban Maggi noodles too

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government too has banned Maggi in the state.

"Till it is proved that Maggi noodles are not harmful for the health, there will be a ban in the state on the sale of this noodle," Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said at the Mantralaya after a meeting with Union Chemicals and Fertiliser Minister Anant Kumar.

The Bihar government on Friday banned the sale of Maggi noodles in the state for a month after a similar measure taken by several other states.

"We are banning sale, purchase, distribution and display of Maggi noodles in Bihar for a month after receiving information that the product has been banned in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat and several other states over presence of heavy metal lead and MSG in it," state Food Safety Commissioner Anand Kishor said.
