Water Resources Minister of Goa, Vinod Palyekar, on Friday had to pay a fine of Rs 600 for violating traffic rules. Interestingly, the minister was in Varanasi when his driver committed the offence. Taking the matter in his own hands, the minister called the RTO director, and requested for a challan to pay the fine after video of the violation went viral on social media.

The video which was widely shared on social media, showed the minister's car overtaking another car on the Mandovi bridge. The minister was quick to take a stand as soon as the video started circulating. He recorded a video message from Varanasi airport and explained himself.

"I am at Varanasi airport and on my way to Goa. My official car was sent for servicing and my driver was bringing it back to pick me up from the airport when he overtook another car. I immediately called the director of transport, Nikhil Desai, after watching the video and requested for a challan to pay the fine," Palyekar said in his video message.

The enforcement wing of the transport department of Goa issued the challan and the fine was promptly paid by one of the associates of the minister.
